Sheep and Goat Sector in India – Present scenario
Need of Intensive Farming
On 9th May 2021 we organized webinar on Sheep and Goat Sector in India present scenario – a need of intensive farming. We had eminent speaker Dr Ashok Kumar Valapadasu, deputy director animal husbandry Telangana. We call him, The sheep and goat man of Telangana. We had a discussion on sheep and goat industry. Yes industry. Industry owned by sheep and goat owners and we all veterinarians are general managers of this industry. Lot of work has to be done, there are many problems in this industry. Unless and until we face and solve those problems, industry will not run properly and will not be profitable too. We will all come together and guide each other and come forward with solutions to every issue… like availability of feed and fodder, milk production, cheese making, value added by products… so many… and even indiscriminate cross breeding in sheep and goats also. There are recognized 34 breeds of goat and 44 breeds of sheep in India. Many people are doing cross breeding. There are different views amongst us. There are few advantages, pure breeds should be conserved at government farms, not possible at farmers doorstep, economics and conservations are parallel to each other so on.
We organized a technical seminar for veterinarians and students from western Maharashtra on 18th November 2019 to provide key information and knowledge on different topics in Animal husbandry field. We invited eminent speakers in the filed of Animal husbandry and covered below mentioned topics in seminar
1) Mastitis & Thelitis in Buffalo
2) Dilated Cardiomyopathy in Dogs
3) Zoonotic Diseases -Role of Veterinarians
4) Blood Transfusion in Ruminanats
During drought situation, on 21 august 2019, the work camp was organised at Banpuri taluka Aatpadi by our foundation and we offered our services for welfare of farmers in distress. To save animals in drought, it was necessary to impart basic training to farmers, besides giving timely nutritious feed and fodder, water with medicines to animals as per their need.
